Description
A Visual Impairment Teacher provides direct instruction, student assessment, individual education plan (IEP) team participation, consultation with staff and parents, and gathers the data for regional low-incidence planning. All new vision referrals require an Orientation and Mobility Skills Assessment along with a Functional Vision Evaluation. Students may qualify for VI services and O&M, although would not qualify for O&M without VI Services.
Services include:
- Evaluate students referred for consideration of the need for vision services.
- Participate on the IEP team as assigned, including the preparation of timely and appropriate individual IEP team member reports.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the IEP as requested.
- Provide direct vision instruction/consultation.
- Provide training as necessary for significant others, i.e., teachers, parents, etc.
- Complete necessary local, state, and CESA forms, i.e., membership forms.
