Description
CESA 9 developed the Substitute Teacher Training in response to a Legislative Bill which permits the temporary teacher certification of individuals with Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in areas other than education. The training is designed to prepare prospective substitute teachers with in-depth information about the substitute's role. Participants who complete the training and practice will receive a certificate of completion. During the workshop, participants will be guided through the Department of Public Instruction’s application process for the Substitute Teacher License.
Events
By the end of the program, participants will be able to:
- Identify and understand the professional responsibilities and roles of the substitute teacher
- Identify and demonstrate successful classroom organization, management, and behavioral strategies
- Understand the importance of student safety
- Prepare and conduct a lesson
- Understand the legal responsibilities of a substitute teacher
- Use and demonstrate appropriate communication protocols and procedures during the school day

Cost: $175 per person for the 2-day workshop (payment required when registering). This includes lunch & materials. PLEASE NOTE: There is a separate $125 DPI fee when you apply for your Substitute Teacher License at the end of the second day of training (please bring a credit card for this).
Time: 8:30 am-3:30 pm (each day)
Veterans can receive $100 off the registration fee with the presentation of a military ID. Simply note that you are a Veteran in your registration and bypass the payment screen. We will adjust pricing after an ID is presented on the first day of the workshop.
Please be sure to have the following when you attend:
- Laptop and power cord
- Access to your email (login and password)
- Copies of college transcripts (Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree)
- Credit card to pay the $125 DPI Substitute Teacher License fee (needed at the end of the second day)
