Description
An Educational Interpreter facilitates communication between deaf or hard of hearing students and their general education teachers, peers, and other persons who do not share the student’s primary communication mode of sign language. Services include:
- Interpretation in general education classes and other environments as appropriate at the educational level and through the communication mode used by the student(s) under the direction of the special education teacher(s).
- Interpretation and communication between student(s) and IEP team members.
- Provide communication link between regular education teachers and special education teacher/case manager.
- Provide subject matter tutoring as appropriate.
- Provide reinforcement, expansion, and development of signed vocabulary under the direction of the teacher of the hearing impaired.
- Provide transliteration of classroom materials to appropriate sign language communication mode used by the student(s).
