Description
Project SEARCH is a business led collaboration that enables young adults with disabilities to gain and maintain employment through training and career exploration. Eligible students with disabilities are offered a workforce alternative for their last year of high school. The 9 to 12 month program provides total immersion in a large community business. Each day, students report to the host business, learn employability skills in the classroom and job skills through their internships. Interns participate in three, ten week department rotations. The goal at the end of the school year is for interns to acquire competitive community employment with at least 16 hours of work per week with above minimum wage.
The current host site is the Aspirus Hospital in Wausau. Other sites may become available. Partners include Aspirus Hospital - Wausau, school districts, vocational service providers, vocational rehabilitation agency, and long-term service providers.
