Description
The Parent Liaison supports the WSPEI Parent Liaison Coordinator within the school district. The district Parent Liaison is selected from within the purchasing school district. The District Parent Liaison’s role is to receive and disseminate information to staff and parents for trainings and meetings as approved by the district; refer parents to WSPEI Parent Liaison for information about working with the school districts to meet the needs of their child; attend IEP and communication in-services and other trainings if available; and work with the district’s director of special education to be involved in parent activities, which could include special education plan input or parent advisory committees. District Parent Liaisons receive ongoing support and mentoring from the WSPEI Coordinator. Services include:
- Assist with gathering and disseminating materials and information to parents and/or staff.
- Assist, when requested, in communication with parents or refer parents to WSPEI Family Engagement Coordinator.
- Attend trainings and regional meetings to gain knowledge about special education process and services, communication, conflict resolution, and transition.
- Communicate and work with the district director of special education.
- Set up a resource library in the school district.
- Assist in the exploration, development, and participation in a parent advisory council.
- Review, when requested, the district special education plan.
